Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday in the United States honoring African American heritage by commemorating the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. in 1865. Celebrated on June 19, this liberating day is recognized as a state holiday in 36 states of the United States.

The Canton Unit Boys & Girls Club members met at their club on June 19, 2010 to celebrate this historical day with their community and community leaders.

Veteran Landres Cheeks challenged everyone in the community to sponsor a child for Boys & Girls club membership. This event was supported by Senator Kenny Wayne Jones, Alderman Louis Smith, The Canton Police Dept., All American Check Cashing, and the Ms. Army National Guard. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a day filled with water slides, rock climbing, and plenty of food and fun.
